Commercial Lighting

In commercial buildings, lighting typically accounts for 25-30 percent of energy use. New lighting products, including more efficient fluorescent lamps such as “T8” models, can reduce energy costs by as much as 50 percent. The current generation of fluorescent lamps offers excellent lumen maintenance, long service life, improved color rendering, excellent color stability, multiple color temperature choices, instant-on availability and dim-ability. All of these lamps contain mercury and manufacturers strongly support recycling as the preferred management option at end-of-life.

This site offers information concerning energy efficient lighting products used in factories, offices, warehouses, government buildings and schools; the mercury content of these commercial/industrial lamps; regulations that affect how the lamps are handled and disposed; and private companies that provide collection and recycling services.
