Several Canadian Provinces have enacted laws requiring that mercury-added lamps (and other products) be recycled. These include British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec, and Prince Edward Island. The scope of the British Columbia program is much broader than US laws and includes all lights, lamps, fixtures and ballasts used in residential, institutional, commercial and industrial applications. The other programs are limited to mercury-added lamps and, in the case of Prince Edward Island, LEDs as well.
Details on the Canadian recycling programs are available from Product Care Association (ReGeneration) a non-profit stewardship organization based in Victoria, British Columbia, CAN.
