FREE RECYCLING OF FLUORESCENT, CFLS, AND OTHER MERCURY-CONTAINING LIGHT BULBS

Many types of light bulbs contain small amounts of mercury.  These bulbs include fluorescent, compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), and many types of high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps.

These bulbs are marked with the symbol hgsymbol or the words “contains mercury.”

Vermont law prohibits the disposal of bulbs with mercury in the trash. All waste bulbs containing mercury need to be recycled.

Bring any number of CFLs or up to ten linear, circline, U-tube or HID bulbs to one of the retailers, transfer stations, or hazardous waste depots throughout Vermont that offer free recycling.

To find a recycling location near you, use the zip code search tool on this page for convenient and free recycling.
